Racism Mapping Tool (RAMP)

The Surrey LIP developed the Racism Mapping Project (RAMP) to provide individuals who face racism and hate with a platform to report and share their experiences. This community-led research project believes that we need to have data and experiences working cohesively to create systems change.

In partnership with PeaceGeeks, we have adapted a data map that plots such incidents across the City of Surrey to chart types of hate events and the people they have been directed toward. We aim to equip the BIPOC community of Surrey with the means to combat bigotry that excludes newcomers and immigrants from reaching their settlement goals. This initiative endeavours to curb discriminatory attitudes in Surrey and allow newcomers to feel comfortable and welcomed in their communities.

RAMP is a mapping tool that will gather information directly from people who have been the target of hate incidents or have witnessed someone else being discriminated against.

We all have the right to be treated equally, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, language, age or another status. Yet we often hear heartbreaking stories of people who suffer cruelty simply for belonging to a “different” group from those in their communities, workplaces, positions of privilege, or power.

The Racism Mapping Project was funded by Immigration and Refugee Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is not a platform for reporting hate incidents to the authorities or the RCMP.

Have an incident of discrimination, racism or hate to share? Share it on RAMP
Help us gather information on incidences of discrimination, racism or hate on our Racism Mapping Project (RAMP).

Those who share their experiences on the online platform will remain fully anonymous. The sole reason to collect this information is to support the community of Surrey in promoting anti-racism policies.

True belonging means we not only use our voices to speak out against inequity and hatred, but create spaces for all voices to be heard and all differences and lived realities acknowledged.
