Prepare for Truth and Reconciliation Day

During the week leading to Truth and Reconciliation Day, Indigenous communities call upon peoples living on these unceded lands to honour survivors of residential schools and their families and remember the children that never came home.  To do this we are called upon about to learn about the devastating legacy of residential schools to listen with our eyes, ears, mind and heart to the truths about its present impacts.  ​

We invite you to learn more through the Surrey First People’s Guide for Newcomers which provides information on the traditional protocols, histories, and current realities of Indigenous, Metis, and Inuit people in Canada.  It addresses common misconceptions about the First People of this land and seeks to uplift and amplify the voices of the land-based Nations that Surrey occupies. This resource uncovers hard truths, constructs a foundation for shared understanding, and continues the important work of building solidarity between the Indigenous and newcomer communities in Surrey.  ​
