National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration
July 18, 2023
Serving the community in #SurreyBC, we at Surrey Local Immigration Partnership, center our work with the knowledge that it takes place on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territories of the Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Kwantlen, qiqéyt, Musqueam and Tsawwassen First Nations.
Surrey LIP participated in National Indigenous Celebration and Wellness Event on June 21st at Cloverdale to recognize and celebrate Indigenous heritage, history, culture, stories, music and food. We recognize the importance that Indigenous history, culture, knowledge, and traditions have on providing context to our work with the Surrey First Peoples Guide for Newcomers available in multiple languages. It was a vibrant community event celebrating the strength and vibrancy of Indigenous people through knowledge and cultural sharing.
We thank Semiahmoo, Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations for hosting, with support from the Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association and City of Surrey.
Reconciliation is key to building truly inclusive and strong communities. And educating ourselves is an important step in moving forward. We encourage everyone to take some time to learn and listen. Here are some online resources we have pulled together to help: https://lnkd.in/gv5d-Tu
