Info Sessions: Introduction to Professional Communication for Internationally Educated Nurses

KPU is offering the Introduction to Professional Communication for Internationally Educated Nurses (PCIEN) course on the Richmond campus from January 7 to April 10, 2025.
Please note: PCIEN is a free course for eligible participants!
PCIEN is a performance-based course designed to assist internationally educated nurses improve communication for entry into professional practice; expand health and idiomatic vocabulary; and increase understanding of culturally expected behaviors of the Canadian health care system.
Highlights of the PCIEN course:
• Communication practice (language and behavior) of role-plays: clients, families and health teams
• Filming of rehearsed and unrehearsed role-plays
• Use of standardized patients/actors
• Feedback and self-reflection
• Written assignments
• Co-taught by KPU English Language Studies Instructor and Nursing Instructor
• Access to KPU facilities and student services (Library, The Learning Centre, Counselling and Advising); and, Trans link’s UPASS.
Who is eligible?
• Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee
• Occupational certification as an RN, LPN or RPN from source country
• Meet language requirements (IELTS 6 or CLBPT 6.5, Duolingo 95, or equivalent) *
• Ability to commit to the full course over 13 weeks
*Individuals who do not fully meet the language requirements may be considered with permission of the instructor.
Course dates: January 7 to April 10 2025
Tuesdays and Thursdays (in person at KPU Richmond) 6:30-9:30 pm + Wednesdays (online) 6:30-9:30 pm
