A humanitarian response to resettling Gazans

The Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of BC (AMSSA) and The Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) spoke to The Source to discuss the impacts of the new immigration plan in Canada and how it pertains to those fleeing conflict zones such as Gaza.
AMSSA oversees more than 90 member agencies and numerous community stakeholders. It provides support to newcomers, including asylum seekers from Syria, Ukraine, and now Gaza (The Source, 2024). The organization is dedicated to understanding and addressing the challenges faced by those fleeing conflict zones. Crocker highlights ongoing challenges such as housing, medical care, and the impact of climate change on humanitarian needs (The Source, 2024).
Surrey Local Immigration Partnership (LIP), in collaboration with AMSSA, is researching to identify community needs and service gaps for newcomers (The Source, 2024). Manvir Aujla, the manager of Research and Knowledge Sharing at Surrey LIP, explains that the Community Needs Assessment focuses on two main areas: understanding the needs and challenges newcomers face in accessing services, and ensuring a coordinated approach among service providers (The Source, 2024).
