The Surrey Immigrant Advisory Roundtable Milestones

The Surrey Immigrant Advisory Roundtable (IAR) is composed of 18 immigrant / refugee residents who support the work of the Surrey LIP. Fourteen different countries are represented at the Surrey IAR and members come from different professional and immigrant backgrounds. 

The group met for the first time in January 2015  but has accomplished a lot since. Below are some of the highlights of the Surrey IAR activities and accomplishments in 2014-2015 fiscal year:

  • Members promoted consultation events through their social media & professional networks
  • The group has identified top FIVE priority areas for Surrey to become a more inclusive community
  • One of the chairs created and moderates the Surrey IAR LinkedIn group to initiate online discussions
  • Two members presented at the SFU-Surrey Newcomer Employment Dialogue and one member acted as an MC of the event
  • One member has applied & was accepted into the SFU-Surrey Igniting Change Leaders Program
  • One member was appointed by Mayor & Council to the City’s Social Policy Advisory Committee
  • The group has provided input to the City’s application process to start a community garden
